Makena’s love of travel began while studying abroad in college. She went on to serve eight years as a U.S. Army officer, followed by a career in management consulting and private equity—advising and investing in travel companies while visiting 84 countries herself. In 2026, she founded Archangel Journeys in Dallas, Texas, bringing two decades of leadership experience and a lifelong love of adventure to the design of individualized journeys through Poland.
The name
A call sign, carried forward with purpose.
During eight years as a U.S. Army officer, Makena’s call sign was “Archangel 6.” It came to represent the qualities that now shape the company: calm leadership, preparation, care for the people entrusted to her, and an unwavering commitment to the mission. Archangel Journeys carries that spirit into travel—helping advisors deliver journeys their clients will remember for a lifetime.
